At Mourne Manor Organics we are celebrating the Soil Association's Organic September! For this we will be posting about the benefits of buying and eating organic food There are so many reasons why choosing Organic is beneficial but in this post will be focusing on the nutritional benefits of eating organic.
Studies show that organic food has a higher nutritional value than non organic foods. A study led by Newcastle University states that organic foods are up to 60% higher in essential antioxidants than non-organic food. Professor Carlo Leifert, from Newcastle University comments on this “The evidence from this study is overwhelming – that organic food is high in antioxidants and lower in toxic metals and pesticides.”
This study looked into the nutritional differences between organic and non-organic foods. The results found that by switching to eating organic foods provided additional antioxidants equating to one to two portions extra a day.
James Thompson, of Mourne Manor Organics comments on this; “It is excellent to have proven by a reputable organisation, such as Newcastle University, what we have always believed to be true; it is clear there are a great deal of nutritional benefits that come with eating organic food as well as it being better for the environment.”
